Military Installations

 

Military projects often present conditions not found on other projects. Personnel often have to undergo background checks long before the project can start.  In fact, the company officers are sometimes called upon to undergo security clearance before they can even secure plans and specifications to bid the project.  The work is often located close to submarines, high tech aircraft, weapons systems, nuclear and conventional weapons and munitions storage areas. Crews have to be carefully selected and security procedures followed explicitly.  Equipment purchased may have to have special configurations to meet military codes and standards.  Work must be performed without endangering security or the mission of the facility. Often times, a high percentage of labor time is spent gaining access to high security areas. Productivity also suffers when the project is shut down without notice due to facility operations.  And of course, the Government has demanding requirements for special certifications which take a large amount of administrative time to fulfill.
