Substation Constructin and Additions

Electrical Substation construction, additions and modifications are some of our company's specialties.  We maintain an accredited four year Apprenticeship Training Program, which has been tailored to this type of work This includes instruction, not only in the electrical aspects of the work, but also training in excavation, foundations, heavy rigging, construction safety and culminating in studies in controls and relaying. We supplement this training with additional courses, such as the Army Corps of Engineers courses on Safety and Project Management and manufacturer classes on subjects such as the terminating/testing of medium voltage insulated power cables, relays and protective equipment.

Our crews are experienced in working  safely around energized facilities. They work equally well in either new construction environments or performing additions/modifications to existing substations. Some of the projects which we have performed successfully include:

 

 
  • Installations and Modifications through 230KV

  • Cable trench installations,  Pre-cast or cast in place

 
  • Control and Relay Panels and Wring

  • Coordination Studies, Relay Settings, Testing  and Start up

 
  • Site Work Foundations and Control Buildings

  • Manholes, Ductbank and Trench installations

 
  • Transformers, breakers, equipment and devices furnished and installed

  • Multiple Sites coordinated and constructed in a single project.

Construction and modifications to 8 substations , Salem, VA

 
  • Unit Substations, Iso-Phase bus and power duct, switchgear through 35KV

  • Repairing equipment in energized substations

 
  • Welded aluminum bus, cable or tubular

  • Compression fittings on cable jumpers

 
  • 4 - 700 ft long 15KV cable bus (12 cables each) runs through underground tunnel from inside of power dam to feed substation
   
 
  • Installation of underground feeders to include manholes, duct banks, cable pulling, termination and testing.

  • Flat, Spread or Drilled Pier foundations and Oil Containment System installations
